In the 1890s, long before Jacksonville’s Southside began to take shape, Richard Greene Skinner acquired more than 50,000 acres of pristine North Florida landscape—laying the foundation for a lasting family legacy.


In 1960, his grandson, alongside his brother and sister, transformed 900 of those acres into an exclusive residential community distinguished by stately homes, a championship golf course, and refined amenities. Thus, Deerwood Country Club was born—established as one of Jacksonville’s premier private club communities.

Today, Deerwood Country Club continues to set an exemplary standard with its commitment to Members honoring the traditions of the past while shaping a vibrant and exciting future with the final phase of a multi-million dollar, multi-year renovation plan. 

Beginning in 2022 and slated for completion in 2027, Deerwood Country Club embarked on an ambitious project to elevate the Member experience to new heights of luxury and sophistication. With a focus on modernization, both on and off the golf course, aesthetic upgrades to the highest standards and overall increase in functionality, the renovation is unparalleled in the Jacksonville club scene.

Our Multimillion-Dollar Renovation

Golf Course Renovation and Short Course


The renovation of the 7,350-yard, par-72 championship course will feature significant enhancements, particularly across the back nine, along with a comprehensive infrastructure upgrade. Improvements will include modernized irrigation and drainage systems, refined routing, and redesigned bunkering to elevate both strategy and course conditions.


The project is led by Erik Larsen, former project architect for Arnold Palmer, ensuring the redesign is guided by exceptional expertise and vision.


In addition to the 18-hole transformation, the club will introduce a dynamic 6-hole short course featuring three greens and six bunkers. Designed with approach shots ranging from 50 to 70 yards, the short course will provide a fun, flexible option for sharpening short-game skills or enjoying a quick round.

Clubhouse Dining


The clubhouse, a centerpiece of Deerwood Country Club, is completely renovated from one end to the other with new casual family dining room "1960". Anchored by a perfectly renovated pool and spa with adjacent poolside dining, there's Sam's Place -- an intimate adult-only dining/bar featuring live music on weekends. Boasting three dining options as well as "to-go" and Food Truck Mondays, there's no shortage of dining options for Members throughout the week.

Clubhouse Kitchen


To support the increased dining experiences, the club's kitchen has undergone a comprehensive makeover including tripling it's capacity to serve Members and guests throughout the week, equipping it with the latest technology and amenities to deliver an exceptional culinary experience.

Racquet Sports


The Racquet Club has six newly renovated subsurface irrigated Har-Tru tennis courts with new LED lighting enhancing competitive play for Members and featured tournaments. Four exciting pickle ball courts offer fun for all skill levels with exceptional space to enjoy this fast-growing sport.

Fitness Center


New cardio and strength equipment along with expanded hours enable health-conscious Members to use the club at their convenience. Training classes, a massage therapist and aesthetician round out the spa-like features offered in the fitness center for our Members.

Men's and Ladies Locker Rooms


Simultaneously, the men's and ladies locker rooms were upgraded to combine modern aesthetics with practical amenities to elevate Members' overall experiences.

The reimagined resort-style infinity-edge pool and spa have Members enjoying an oasis of tranquility and rejuvenation. Adjacent to fitness, kids club and poolside dining, it's the perfect spot to have fun!
